Operation Transformation

Updated: Apr 29, 2021

This year we decided to do some work on our garden. As usual something small (well maybe not so small) turned into something bigger. The decision to purchase a polytunnel, and its subsequent arrival, prompted us to completely transform the garden area behind our house. The area is a long narrow allotment style space. For a long number of years was largely underutilised. Occasionally in the past years I would have planted some things but not very often. A few years we began to plant and grow vegetables and flowers and we really took something good from the process. During the past Covid year we have managed to use the time well and have invested time a bit of money and thought into the space.

My wife, and gardening guru is the brains, driving force and manager of the garden, I just do the digging although occasionally I am allowed to water, a promotion from water hose holder :-)

We found gardening really good for us not just beneficial in terms of food production but in terms of our own wellbeing and exercise and even for our relationship with each other - as long as I do what I am told :-)

As you can see from the images on this page we started with the image below, a long narrow scraggy patch of ground. Now beds have been dug, the tunnel is installed (with raised beds inside made by ourselves) there is an area for fruit shrubs, raspberries, blueberrries etc. and the wall between my neighbour to the west is in the process of being re-built.

We have further tentative plans to continue with the placement of a patio area at the house end and a shed at the far end. I hope you will see that we are making progress.
